COOKIES POLICY
This Cookies Policy explains how Newbold College of Higher Education (“the College”, “we”, “us”, or “our”) uses cookies and similar technologies on Newbold Connect (the “Platform”).
Newbold Connect is practice-first Christian learning for real life, delivered through a hosted platform (Kajabi). Kajabi sets a number of cookies on our behalf to provide core functionality (e.g. login, checkout, video playback for Classes) and basic analytics. We may also use additional third-party tools (such as a cookie consent manager, payment providers, and analytics or marketing services) that set their own cookies.
This Policy sits alongside our Privacy Policy and Terms of Use and should be read together with them.
1. WHAT ARE COOKIES AND SIMILAR TECHNOLOGIES
Cookies are small text files that are downloaded to your device when you visit a website or use an online service. They are widely used to make websites work, or work more efficiently, as well as to provide information to site owners.
Similar technologies include:
- Local storage and session storage
- Pixel tags and web beacons
- Device identifiers and similar “online identifiers”
In this Policy, we use “cookies” to cover both cookies and similar technologies where the distinction is not important.
Under UK law (the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations – “PECR”), we must:
- Tell you that cookies are being used;
- Explain what they do and why; and
- Get your consent before placing non-essential cookies on your device.
There is an exception for cookies that are strictly necessary to provide a service you have requested (for example, to keep you logged in, or to remember what is in your cart).
2. WHO SETS COOKIES ON NEWBOLD CONNECT?
Cookies on the Platform may be set by:
- Newbold College (via Kajabi)
- Kajabi sets first-party cookies to make the Platform function (e.g. session management, security, language settings) and to provide basic usage analytics.
- Third-party service providers, including (for example):
- Payment processors (e.g. Stripe, PayPal)
- Email and marketing tools integrated with Kajabi
- Analytics tools (e.g. Google Analytics)
- Cookie consent / banner tools (e.g. a third-party consent manager)
These third parties may set cookies in order to deliver their services. Their own privacy and cookie policies will apply alongside this Policy.
We remain responsible for ensuring that non-essential cookies are not set without consent and that cookie categories are correctly configured.
3. TYPES OF COOKIES WE USE
We group cookies into the following categories, based on their purpose. The exact cookies may change over time as Kajabi and our integrations evolve, but they generally fit into these types.
3.1. Strictly necessary (essential) cookies
These cookies are essential for the Platform to function and cannot be switched off in our systems. They are usually set only in response to actions you take that amount to a request for services, such as:
- Logging in and maintaining a secure session
- Managing your cart and checkout
- Protecting the site against fraud and abuse
- Serving content securely via the content delivery network
Without these cookies, parts of the Platform will not work properly. Under PECR, we do not require your consent to use strictly necessary cookies.
3.2. Functional cookies
These cookies enable enhanced functionality and personalisation, such as:
- Remembering your preferences (e.g. language, cookie choices)
- Remembering where you left off in a course or video
- Supporting certain interactive features
If you do not allow these cookies, some or all of these services may not function properly.
3.3. Performance and analytics cookies
These cookies help us understand how visitors use the Platform, so we can:
- See which pages or lessons are most popular
- Identify issues such as broken links or error messages
- Improve navigation, course design, and overall user experience
Analytics may be provided by Kajabi’s built-in tools and/or third-party analytics providers (for example, Google Analytics, if we choose to implement it).
These cookies are non-essential. We will only use them where you have given consent through our cookie banner or settings.
3.4. Marketing and advertising cookies
Where used, these cookies help us:
- Measure the effectiveness of our campaigns
- Understand which adverts or messages are most relevant
- Build audiences for future outreach (e.g. on social media platforms)
These cookies are always non-essential and require your consent. If you do not consent, you may still see generic advertising, but it will not be tailored using these cookies.
We keep advertising cookies modest and proportionate to Newbold Connect's missional purpose, and avoid invasive tracking practices that undermine user trust.
4. EXAMPLES OF COOKIES USED
The specific cookies set on Newbold Connect may include (illustrative, not exhaustive):
- Kajabi session and security cookies
- Used to manage sessions, security, form submissions, and basic site configuration.
- Kajabi analytics and performance cookies
- Used to understand the use of the site at an aggregate level.
- Payment provider cookies (e.g. Stripe, PayPal)
- Used to remember your payment method, help prevent fraud, and complete transactions securely.
- Cookie consent manager cookies
- Used to remember whether you have accepted, rejected, or customised your cookie preferences.
- Analytics cookies (e.g. Google Analytics) – if implemented
- Used to collect information about how visitors use the site (e.g. pages visited, time spent, referrals), generally in aggregated form.
The exact list of cookies may change as Kajabi updates its platform or as we add or remove integrations. We will review and update our cookie documentation periodically using Kajabi’s published cookie list and our consent tool’s scan reports.
5. CONSENT AND HOW OUR COOKIE BANNER WORKS
5.1. When we ask for consent
Under PECR, we must obtain your consent before setting any cookies that are not strictly necessary for the provision of the service you request (for example, analytics and marketing cookies).
When you first visit Newbold Connect (and periodically thereafter), you will see a cookie banner which:
- Explains that we use cookies and for what purposes;
- Allows you to accept all, reject non-essential, or manage your preferences;
- Links to this Cookies Policy and our Privacy Policy for more information.
5.2. No non-essential cookies before consent
Our configuration is set up so that non-essential cookies (such as analytics or marketing cookies) are not set until you have given consent via the banner or settings. This is consistent with UK ICO expectations for compliant cookie banners.
Strictly necessary cookies may be set regardless of your banner choice, as they are required for the Platform to function.
5.3. Withdrawing or changing your consent
You can change your cookie preferences at any time by:
- Using the “Cookie settings” or similar link in the website footer or banner to re-open the preference centre; and/or
- Adjusting your browser settings to block or delete cookies; and/or
- Using any controls offered by the consent tool we have implemented on Kajabi.
If you withdraw consent for a category of cookies, those cookies should no longer be used on subsequent visits (subject to browser/cache limitations).
6. MANAGING COOKIES IN YOUR BROWSER
In addition to our on-site controls, you can manage cookies through your browser settings. Most browsers allow you to:
- See which cookies are set on your device;
- Delete cookies;
- Block cookies from all sites or specific sites;
- Set preferences for certain types of cookies.
Please note:
- Blocking or deleting strictly necessary cookies may prevent you from logging in or using key parts of the Platform.
- Your preferences are device- and browser-specific; you may need to configure each device/browser separately.
You can find more information about managing cookies via your browser’s help pages or reputable online resources.
7. COOKIES, PERSONAL DATA, AND OUR PRIVACY POLICY
Some cookies collect data that can be considered personal data, such as IP addresses and online identifiers. In those cases, we process that data in accordance with our Privacy Policy, which explains:
- What personal data we collect and how we use it;
- Our legal bases for processing (including consent and legitimate interests);
- How we share data with Kajabi and other processors;
- Your rights under UK GDPR.
Please refer to our Privacy Policy for further detail.
8. CHANGES TO THIS COOKIES POLICY
We may update this Cookies Policy from time to time, for example, to:
- Reflect changes in the cookies used on Newbold Connect (e.g. new integrations or tools);
- Respond to changes in UK law or ICO guidance;
- Clarify our practices.
- Reflect changes in platform capabilities (e.g. enabling or disabling optional interaction features) that affect cookie usage.
Updated versions will be posted on this page with a revised “Last updated” date. Where changes are significant (for example, introducing new categories of cookies), we may also highlight them via the cookie banner or in-platform notifications and, where necessary, seek fresh consent.
